Building Materials
We conduct scientific research in the area of building products, analyzing their compliance with existing national and European standards and regulations. We assess and certify them for factory production control. We provide expertise and opinions on raw materials and building products and their applications.
Research is conducted in the Laboratory, which is accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation - certificate no. AB 1344 in the scope of:
- chemical tests, chemical analysis of products and building materials;
- mechanical tests of products and building materials;
- physical properties tests of products and building materials;
- radiochemical tests and radiation.

Building Insulation
The branch of Łukasiewicz – WIT in Katowice continues the activities of the Central Research and Development Center of the Building Insulation Industry, established in 1950, which was integrated into the structures of Łukasiewicz – WIT on 1st March 2013.

Material Technologies
- Management of non-hazardous waste.
- Management of mining, industrial, and municipal waste.
- Management of mineral waste in the production of building materials.
- Economic use of mining waste (gangue, coal slurries).
- Use of waste raw materials in road construction, earthworks, and hydro-technical construction.

Modular Construction
The need to ensure infrastructure and residential buildings by the construction sector, in accordance with increasing market demands, means that innovation development in this industry does not proceed at the expected pace.
Therefore, it is necessary to provide the construction industry with solutions that enable increased efficiency of its activities, and as a result, accelerate its transformation in the area of sustainable development. The concept of Construction 4.0, inspired by the Industry 4.0 idea, introduces a change in the way resources are designed, constructed, and operated by the construction sector.
In response to the construction sector’s needs related to the 4.0 transformation, our Center undertakes activities in the area of:
- Industrialization of production (physical value chains with modularization and prefabrication);
- Digital-physical systems (Internet of Things, automation, and robotics);
- Digital and computational technologies (BIM, scanning, artificial intelligence and cloud computing, big data, and data analysis, Blockchain);
- Modular construction - a research program implemented by one of the Research Groups, Sustainable Economy and Energy of Łukasiewicz.
