Building Materials Laboratory INSULATION

The laboratory is accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation – certificate No. AB 008. It is successively renewed after control audits carried out by the PCA.

The laboratory performs comprehensive tests of water and thermal insulation, necessary for CE marking, certification, approval and quality control.

As the only laboratory in Central Europe, we perform thermal conductivity coefficient tests in a wide temperature range:

  • for flat products in the range from -160 to 600°C,
  • for tubular products (lagging) in the range from -40 to 600 °C.

We operate in accordance with the Quality Policy of the Building Materials Laboratory “IZOLACJA” in order to ensure the highest level and quality of services provided.

Current activities of the Laboratory

Types of tests:

Our Laboratory is accredited by the PCA (under the EU notification No. 1454 Łukasiewicz – WIT, since April 23, 2015). We perform tests for manufacturers of products from the European Union countries, used in the process of assessment and verification of constancy of performance, specified in Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011, establishing harmonized conditions for the marketing of construction products.

The scope of authorization of the Minister of Infrastructure and Development.

CEN Keymark Certification

We also have the status of a laboratory registered under the CEN Keymark Certification Scheme (European voluntary certification of products and services for thermal insulation).

PCA Accreditation

The laboratory has been accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation since 1994 – certificate No. AB 008. It is successively renewed after control audits carried out by the PCA.

Accreditation covers testing of the following products:

  • sealants
  • stickers
  • mass
  • asphalt emulsions
  • plastic films
  • slabs
  • mats

Quality policy

The management system of the Laboratory established by the Management of the Institute and the Building Materials Laboratory is in accordance with the requirements of the current edition of the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories”.

  • ensuring and maintaining the quality of research services provided at the highest level, in order to ensure their competitiveness on the Polish, European and global markets;
  • continuous expansion of the scope of research services provided in order to meet the needs reported by our Clients;
  • maintaining the accreditation of the Polish Centre for Accreditation, the authorization of the competent Minister, the status of a notified body and the status of a laboratory registered under the CEN Keymark Certification Scheme.
  • high qualifications of employees, which are constantly developed, among others through participation in specialized internal and external training;
  • precision of the tests performed, thanks to the use of measuring equipment that meets the requirements resulting from the scope of tests performed and is subject to metrological control and supervision;
  • reproducibility and repeatability of tests through validation of measuring equipment and test methods;
  • reliability and impartiality, in accordance with good laboratory practice, as well as ensuring the protection of confidential information and property rights;
  • insurance cover for test objects provided by clients and documentation regarding their results;
  • strives to make its services competitive in relation to other research laboratories by:
    • high quality of services provided
    • application of justified costs of services provided, satisfying Clients
    • minimizing the time of contract implementation
    • participates in the national accreditation system supervised by the Polish Centre for Accreditation

    • allows observation of the course of research by independent observers
    • It is not undertaken to conduct research using methods that do not guarantee objectivity or are characterized by low reliability of their results.
  • The management of the Institute and the Building Materials Laboratory “IZOLACJA” declares that they will make every effort to apply the principles of good professional practice to guarantee high quality of services provided, providing:

    • conducting research in an objective, ethical, impartial manner, free from conflicts of interest and prejudice;
    • reliable, valid and appropriate for the intended use of the results of the tests performed and delivered to the Clients on the agreed date and in a manner that meets their expectations;
    • meeting the Client’s requirements, with the proviso that the performance of the tests must not compromise the reliability of the results or reduce their reliability;
    • maintaining compliance with the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 standard and continuous improvement of the effectiveness of the management system, taking into account risks and opportunities;
    • compliance with the accreditation requirements set out in the PCA documents;
    • providing PCAs with the ability to control compliance with accreditation requirements.

Building Materials Laboratory "INSULATION"

The laboratory is accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation – certificate no. AB 008. The laboratory performs comprehensive tests of waterproof and thermal insulation, necessary for CE marking, certification, approval procedures and quality control.

The only laboratory in Central Europe that performs thermal conductivity tests in a wide temperature range:

  • for flat products in the range from -160 to 600 degrees Celsius,
  • for tubular products (casings) in the range from -40 to 600 degrees C.

and the following types of research:

  • acoustic (tests of dynamic stiffness of materials used in floating floors),
  • fire (tests of non-flammability of building materials, tests of combustion heat, tests of the impact of a single burning object on a building product (SBI), tests of material flammability under the direct action of a single flame, tests of the limiting temperature of use of fibrous insulating materials),
  • strength (e.g. tests of resistance to static loads of waterproofing materials, tests of impact resistance of waterproofing materials, tests of shear, tensile, bending and compression strength)
  • physicochemical (e.g. water tightness tests, bending resistance at low temperatures, water absorption tests, formaldehyde emission tests, chloride ion concentration tests),
  • radiochemical (tests of the concentration of natural radioactive elements K, Ra, Th)

Laboratory – Łukasiewicz Branch – WIT in Katowice, is accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation – Certificate No. AB 008.

As part of EU notification no. 1454 Łukasiewicz – WIT, since 23 April 2015, the Laboratory accredited by PCA has been performing tests for manufacturers of products located in the European Union, used in the process of assessing and verifying the constancy of performance, specified in Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2011, establishing harmonized conditions for the marketing of construction products. In addition to PCA accreditation, the Laboratory has the status of a registered laboratory under the CEN Keymark Certification Scheme.

Quality policy

The Building Materials Laboratory operates with a sense of responsibility for the level and quality of services provided in order to ensure full customer satisfaction and gain their trust.

Objectives and principles of the quality policy

The management system of the Laboratory established by the Management of the Institute and the Building Materials Laboratory is in accordance with the requirements of the current edition of the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard “General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories”.

The primary goals of the Laboratory are:

  • ensuring and maintaining the quality of the research services provided at the highest possible level so that, in the opinion of our Clients, they are competitive on the Polish, European and global markets;
  • taking action to expand the scope of research services provided in order to meet the needs expressed by our Clients;
  • maintaining the accreditation of the Polish Centre for Accreditation, the authorization of the competent Minister, the status of a notified body and the status of a laboratory registered under the CEN Keymark Certification Scheme.

The Building Materials Laboratory “INSULATION” declares that it pursues these goals guided by the following principles:

  • the Laboratory’s activity is based on the high qualifications of its staff, whose competences are continuously improved, among others, through participation in internal and external training;
  • ensures and monitors the necessary precision of the tests performed by using measuring equipment that meets the requirements resulting from the scope of the tests performed, subject to metrological control and supervision;
  • ensures the reproducibility and repeatability of tests for the research procedures used in the Laboratory by performing validation of measuring equipment and research methods;
  • provides services to the Client in a reliable, impartial and independent manner, in accordance with good laboratory practice and ensuring the protection of confidential information about Clients and the protection of their property rights;
  • actively responds to the needs reported by Clients to expand the scope of accreditation to include new research areas;
  • the test objects provided by the Client and documents prepared on the basis of the test results performed in the Laboratory are covered by insurance;
  • strives to make its services competitive in relation to other research laboratories by:
    • high quality of services provided
    • application of justified costs of services provided, satisfying Clients
