Mechanical Properties of Materials Laboratory

About the laboratory

Our Laboratory of Mechanical Properties of Materials has been accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation since 2001, confirmed by Certificate No. AB 342. As part of the accreditation, we conduct mechanical and metallographic tests, as well as non-accredited tests such as chemical composition tests, tests of material properties in the nanoscale using the DSI method, tests of adhesion of layers and coatings using the scratch-test method. We also develop processes of shot peening technology.

What we do:

Our Laboratory performs tests of metal and composite products and construction and functional materials, in particular:

Mechanical Properties of Materials Laboratory

What we offer:

  • tests of mechanical properties Rp, Re, Rm, A, Z in a static tensile test at room and elevated temperature;
  • tests of susceptibility to plastic deformation (bending test, wire bending test, Erichsen drawability test);
  • impact tests;
  • hardness measurements using the Vickers method, Knoop, Rockwell, Brinell methods, microhardness using the Vickers method;
  • tests using the DSI (Depht Sensing Indentation) method: Martens hardness measurements (HM), indentation hardness measurements (HIT), determination of the elastic modulus (EIT), determination of creep during indentation (CIT);
  • testing the adhesion of layers and coatings using the scratch test method.
  • sample preparation and chemical and electrochemical etching;
  • revealing and analyzing the microstructure, morphology and phase composition of ferrous and non-ferrous metal alloys (qualitative and quantitative analysis of structure components);
  • determining the depth of decarburization by microscopic method and hardness method;
  • determining the thickness of coatings by microscopic means;
  • determining the thickness of diffusion layers by the hardness distribution method;
  • revealing and classifying structural defects by optical microscopy methods;
  • material expertise of a decisive nature, conducted with a view to determining the causes of damage to machine parts, structures, etc.;
  • analysis of the influence of heat treatment, thermochemical or surface plastic processing parameters on the structure and mechanical properties of the material in order to optimize technological processes;
  • identification and description of microstructure after technological processes (reconstruction of technological history).
  • quantitative analysis of the chemical composition of metals and alloys by spark optical emission spectrometry.
  • for plastic, superhard, ceramic and PVD, SVD, etc. coated materials.

Laboratory for Research and Assessment of Mechanical Properties of Materials, Machine Parts and Structures

The main area of activity of the Laboratory is research using destructive methods of strength properties of materials and machine parts, structural research, i.e. microstructure and macrostructure. Under the AB 342 accreditation granted by the Polish Center for Accreditation, it conducts strength, tribological, structure tests of metals and alloys.

The laboratory performs:

The unit provides commercial research services in the field of mechanical and chemical testing of material properties, preparation of opinions and expert reports.

The Laboratory operates a management system based on system documentation that takes into account the guidelines of the PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 standard.

Scope of research:

  • Impact tests
  • Measurement of drawability using the Erichsen method for sheets of thickness 01÷ 2 mm
  • Bending technological test
  • Wire bending test
  • Tensile tests
  • Hardness measurements using the Vickers, Knoop, Rockwell and Brinell methods
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of structural components by optical microscopy
  • Microscopic examination and analysis of the structure of materials
  • Friction wear tests

What makes us stand out

We conduct metallographic tests in the basic scope: analysis of the microstructure and chemical composition of the material, hardness measurements and strength tests of materials. The tests are carried out based on Polish Standards and ISO standards and internal procedures of the Laboratory for Testing and Assessment of Mechanical Properties of Materials, Machine Parts and Structures. The quality of the tests performed is guaranteed by the accreditation of the Polish Center for Accreditation.

Our advantage:

  • We limit the potential risk of failure and use of a faulty component
  • We confirm the technical parameters
  • We detect possible construction errors
  • We test in accordance with applicable standards in an accredited laboratory
  • We have research and development facilities
  • All processes are performed by experienced team of experts
